John Muratore '79, SpaceX Talk

Monday January 20, John Muratore ’79 visited the CEID to share his experience as an aerospace engineer. His talk, cohosted by the CEID and the Yale Undergraduate Aerospace Association, covered his Yale experience and career from the US Air Force and NASA to his current position as Mission Assurance Director at SpaceX. Throughout his experiences, Muratore has been innovating and breaking down the boundaries of how projects are designed. When working at NASA he was given the task of redesigning mission control. He threw out the initial specs and, taking a new approach, had the project done in about half the expected time. Fond of using rapid prototyping, he felt right at home in the CEID.

Despite the challenges associated with his work, the Yale graduate stressed that if you are passionate about aerospace engineering the field is incredibly rewarding. After the talk, Muratore stayed to answer the questions of many eager attendees and suggested the conversation continue over pizza, an offer which a group of the students took him up on.
